Can fat make your face look younger? The answer is yes!

When you look in the mirror, is there something you would like to change in your face? Maybe you would like to see a little more volume in your cheeks, more prominent cheekbones or a more contoured jaw line? Now you can change the facial features that make you feel self-conscious with a procedure known as facial fat grafting.

WHY DO I NEED FACIAL FAT GRAFTING?

As you age, your face naturally changes. As a young woman, your face is more rounded at the temples and cheeks. But when you hit your 30s, your face begins to lose volume around the eyes, cheeks and jawline. This makes you look older. As facial fat decreases, the skin begins to drape more loosely, resulting in the appearance of sagging skin, jowls, hollows beneath your eyes and other facial hollows.

If you don’t like what you see when you look in the mirror, facial fat grafting could be the solution. Also known as fat transfer, facial fat grafting lets you regain your youthful appearance so you can feel good about yourself again.

This procedure uses some of your body’s own fat cells to plump up areas of your face, like sunken cheeks. Fat is taken from another part of the body and injected into the face, smoothing out wrinkles and plumping up the skin again. It can help soften facial contours and add youthful volume that will revitalize your appearance.

ABOUT FACIAL FAT GRAFTING

Though facial fat grafting may not be as well-known as other cosmetic dermal filling procedures, many believe it to be much safer and more effective. It is most commonly used to treat facial scarring, sunken cheeks and sagging skin around the jawline. It can also be used to add fullness to the lips, and in conjunction with facelift surgery.

This procedure takes about one to two hours and it is performed under local or general anesthesia, depending on the needs of the patient. There is no incision in your face. Via liposuction, fat is taken from another area of the body like the thigh or abdomen. It is purified and then injected into targeted areas of the face with a small syringe. Once the fat cells are implanted, they will establish a new blood supply, allowing them to integrate with the living tissue.

There is little risk of infection and no risk of immune system response or rejection.

While the results of facial fat grafting are permanent, your face will continue to lose fat over time and the procedure may need to be repeated after several years.
