What Is Otoplasty for Men?
Often referred to as ear surgery, otoplasty is a plastic surgery procedure that is most often used to alter the shape, size, placement or symmetry of the ears. Otoplasty is also useful in correcting defects of the ear that may have been caused by injury or congenital traits.
What are the Benefits of Otoplasty For Men?
Otoplasty can be used to correct the aesthetic appearance of the ears. Ears that are over or undersized, that protrude or that are disproportional to the body can be embarrassing or unpleasant for many. Otoplasty is a minimally invasive procedure that provides patients with long-lasting results that can boost self-esteem and promote confidence. This procedure can correct a variety of issues that men, teens, and even children experience. Candidates who suffer from defects in their ear structure, caused by injury or genetics, may also benefit from ear surgery.
Is Otoplasty Right For Me?
If you are concerned or have complaints about the placement, size or shape of your ears otoplasty may be right for you. Unlike most other forms of cosmetic surgery, otoplasty is often performed on children and teenagers, as well as adults. This is because many patients find malformation of the ears to be hugely distracting and can affect the quality of life. Others have a genetic or developed defect that needs to be rectified. Regardless of what your complaint may be in regards to the look of your ears, otoplasty can be performed to correct your concerns.
How Involved Is The Otoplasty Procedure?
A relatively short procedure, otoplasty can take up to an hour per ear. An incision is usually made behind the ear, although sometimes it can be done within the natural folds of the ear. This is performed under general anesthesia. Following the incision, Dr. Schwartz can then trim or reshape the cartilage and skin or secure internal sutures to pull back ears that jut out from the head.
How Long Is The Recovery After Ear Surgery?
The recovery period following ear surgery can last about a week. Patients find themselves able to return to work in less than a week, though it is recommended for up to several weeks that vigorous exercise be avoided. It is not uncommon to experience discomfort, inflammation and/or bruising after the surgery. Trouble sleeping has been reported among some patients who are used to lying on their sides. Following the procedure, surgical gauze must be worn for a few days, and a headband should be used while sleeping.
What is the Cost of Otoplasty For Men?
As with most procedures, the overall cost can vary from patient to patient. We often recommend the procedure be performed on both ears to ensure symmetry. Financing is available.
