Overview

What Is Otoplasty for Men?

Often referred to as ear surgery, otoplasty is a plastic surgery procedure most often used to alter the shape, size, placement, or symmetry of the ears. It is also useful in correcting defects of the ear that may have been caused by injury or congenital traits.

What Are the Benefits of Otoplasty for Men?

Otoplasty corrects the aesthetic appearance of the ears. Ears that are oversized, undersized, that protrude, or that are disproportional to the face can feel embarrassing. As a minimally invasive procedure, otoplasty provides long-lasting results that boost self-esteem and promote confidence.

Who It’s For

The procedure addresses a variety of concerns men, teens, and even children experience with their ears. Candidates who suffer from defects in ear structure caused by injury or genetics also benefit from ear surgery.

Recovery

How Long Is the Recovery After Ear Surgery?

The recovery period after ear surgery lasts about a week. Most patients return to work in less than a week, though vigorous exercise should be avoided for up to several weeks. It is not uncommon to experience some discomfort, inflammation, or bruising during the early days after surgery.

Trouble sleeping has been reported among patients who are used to lying on their sides. Surgical gauze is worn for a few days, and a headband should be used at night to protect the ears during sleep.
