with Dr. Nathan Eberle

Cheek, chin, and jaw implants that restore balance, structure, and youthful proportion. Double board-certified care at Weston Center for Plastic Surgery.

Overview

What Are Facial Implants?

Facial implants are designed to promote optimal balance and proportion to your unique facial appearance. If you would like to improve a recessed jaw, small chin, or weak facial contours, plastic surgery with facial implants may be the right choice. Nathan Eberle, M.D., D.D.S., F.A.C.S. is a double board-certified plastic surgeon specializing in facial implants for Fort Lauderdale and Broward County at Weston Center for Plastic Surgery.

In today’s society, beauty is often defined by strong cheekbones and a well-defined chin. Made of solid, FDA-approved components such as silicone or porous polyethylene, facial implants are compatible with human tissue and enhance physical features while preserving your natural identity so you look like yourself, only more balanced.

Benefits

Benefits of Facial Implants

The most recognized benefit of facial implants is their ability to address signs of aging related to bone and soft tissue atrophy. Without underlying support, jowls and skin folds become more prominent. Cheek implants add volume; chin implants create a strong, attractive profile. Implants preserve and enhance natural features rather than replacing them entirely.

Candidacy

Who Is a Good Candidate for Facial Implants?

Facial implants are usually recommended for individuals with a small chin, weak jaw, or unbalanced facial contours. A complete evaluation of your goals and facial structure determines the most appropriate type and size. Schedule a consultation with Dr. Eberle to discuss whether implants can balance your face while maintaining the features that make you recognizable.

Goals

Why Do People Have Facial Implant Procedures?

Seven Common Goals
01

Improve a flat face by creating shapely, strong cheekbones

02

Raise the cheekbones and restore midface volume

03

Lift the cheeks and soften nasolabial folds

04

Strengthen overall face shape and jaw definition

05

Elongate the jawline for a more balanced profile

06

Add volume where bone and soft tissue have atrophied

07

Construct a stronger, more defined chin

Placement

Where Are Implants Placed in the Face?

Most facial implants are placed in the cheek, jaw, or midface to restore volume, definition, and proportion.

Cheek Implants

Zygomatic implants add volume to the midface, raise the cheek, reduce the nasolabial fold, and create a high cheekbone appearance that reflects light for a symmetrical look.

Jaw Implants

Mandibular implants improve the width and length of a narrow jaw, defining the lower face and creating a stronger, more balanced profile from every angle.

Midfacial Implants

Malar and submalar implants raise the cheeks and balance the relationship between the midface, lower face, forehead, and neck for patients with a flat midfacial appearance.

The Procedure

How Are Facial Implants Inserted?

The main purpose of facial implants is to enhance the face with symmetry and volume for a youthful, balanced appearance. Implants are usually permanent but can be removed if preferences change or rare complications arise.

Consultation

Full facial evaluation to match implant type and size to your anatomy

Approach

Most incisions are placed inside the mouth for minimal visible scarring

Fixation

Titanium microscrews secure implants in position during healing

Closure

Dissolvable sutures; post-operative care tailored to each area treated

By Implant Type
01

Cheek Implant

Small incisions in the gum near the upper lip create a pocket around the cheekbones. The implant is secured with a titanium screw, then closed with dissolvable sutures.

02

Jaw Implant

An incision inside the mouth allows a pocket along the jawbone. The implant is positioned against the mandible and may be fixated with screws before the incision is closed.

03

Midface Implant

Incisions in the mucosa above the teeth create a pocket at the intended position. Once placed, implants are secured with microscrews to prevent movement and closed with resorbable sutures.

Longevity

How Long Do Facial Implants Last?

As a permanent solution to augmentation of the facial skeleton, facial implants can last a lifetime. Once successfully inserted, they become an important complement to your normal anatomy. In cases of infection, dissatisfaction, or malposition, implants can be safely removed, though most patients keep them for many years.
