Dermapen® is a revolutionary new treatment to remove imperfections in the skin, such as scarring, age spots and wrinkles. Dermapen® also increases collagen production, resulting in smoother and firmer skin. The Weston Center for Plastic Surgery is one of the most trusted providers of Dermapen® in Fort Lauderdale and Broward County.

WHAT IS DERMAPEN®?

Dermapen® is among the latest innovations in skin rejuvenation techniques available. This fractional device is designed to treat skin concerns, such as scarring caused by acne or burns, as well as fine lines and wrinkles. The Dermapen® treatment uses multiple fine needles to pierce the skin, prompting the body to increase its production of collagen, a key structural element of the skin. As collagen production increases, the skin appears rejuvenated and the appearance of scars and wrinkles is diminished.

BENEFITS OF DERMAPEN® TREATMENTS

Dermapen® is effective at removing skin imperfections, such as scars, acne, wrinkles, lines, creases and discoloration. Dermapen® is a unique revolutionary procedure that promotes natural collagen reproduction while also removing imperfections and is safer than many other micro-needling and laser treatments. Patients appreciate the convenience of the procedure, as well as the lack of recovery period and minimal downtime.

ARE DERMAPEN® TREATMENTS RIGHT FOR ME?

Dermapen® is a facial rejuvenation technique designed to reduce the appearance of scars and wrinkles. While it can also lead to improvements in the appearance of other skin conditions, this treatment works best if your main skin concerns are wrinkles and scarring. Most men and women in good overall health can undergo Dermapen® treatments.

HOW INVOLVED IS THE DERMAPEN® PROCEDURE?

This is a non-surgical procedure that takes about one to two hours in our Weston office. However, since the device does pierce the surface of the skin, Dermapen® is a bit more involved than other non-surgical cosmetic treatments. Dermapen® looks like a pen-shaped device. On the tip are multiple very fine needles. During treatment, this device is stamped on the skin in a precisely controlled manner. This automated device was designed to minimize discomfort and increase efficiency. By piercing the skin’s surface, this technique promotes the body’s production of collagen, a key component of the skin’s structure and elasticity.

HOW DOES DERMAPEN® TREAT WRINKLES, STRETCH MARKS, AND SCARS?

The Dermapen® treatment consists of a series of needles that puncture the skin’s surface, causing micro-trauma which stimulates the body to create a supply of new healthy collagen as the body’s natural immune response. These tiny punctures act as micro-channels that help transport topical nutrients used during the treatment deep into the underlying layers of skin for an increased and more lasting effect.

HOW IS DERMAPEN’S MICRO-NEEDLING DIFFERENT FROM OTHER TECHNIQUES?

The Dermapen® is a small device that produces similar, if not superior, results to a fractional laser without the risk of hyper or hypo-pigmentation, and none of the side effects and downtime associated with heat-based laser treatments. While many micro-needling and laser treatments produce similar results, they achieve them by different means, generating different side effects and considerations. Lasers use light beams and/or extreme heat to create a micro-trauma to the skin and induce collagen production, while Dermapen® creates consistent micro-punctures in the skin without the damaging side effects of heat.

IS DERMAPEN® SAFE FOR DARKER SKIN TYPES?

Dermapen® is much safer to use on darker skin types, such as Mediterranean, Latino, Asian, East Indian or African skin tones than laser devices, because Dermapen® does not utilize melanin-absorbing laser and heat, eliminating the danger of hyperpigmentation. Dermapen® can be safely used on persons of all skin colors and skin types.

HOW LONG IS THE RECOVERY AFTER DERMAPEN®?

Micro-needling treatments require little to no downtime. Avoid direct sun exposure, strenuous activities and facial treatments for 24 hours. Immediately following the treatment, your skin will be red and a little swollen. Depending on the extent of treatment, some bleeding may also occur. These side effects usually subside within three days. Patients are generally back to work within a day or two, some even returning the same day as the procedure.

HOW MUCH DOES DERMAPEN® TREATMENT COST?

While patients often see visible results following the very first session, a series of four to six treatments is recommended, depending on your aesthetic goals. Financing is available.
